Story
Sound can be engineered.
This is not just a guitar that resonates.
It is built to control how sound moves.
You feel it the moment you play.
The sound moves forward.
Each note has clarity.
Unnecessary vibration disappears, leaving only what matters.
We don’t just build guitars.
We design how sound flows.
Not to increase resonance—
but to control it.
That is the new standard.
WELIGHT did not begin as a traditional guitar maker.
It began in metal fabrication.
Because we were not bound by tradition,
we were able to question it.
Why are resonator guitars heavy?
Why does vibration disperse instead of being directed?
That question became the starting point.
In 2014, we simply began learning guitar.
It happened by chance.
A lesson held nearby.
At the time, music was not even a central part of our lives.
The turning point came during a business exhibition.
While preparing for a BtoB trade show,
we asked an instructor for ideas and discovered resonator guitars.
We didn’t fully understand them.
So we started searching.
We visited music stores across Japan.
There were almost none.
Sometimes only one per shop—if any.
So we studied the structure ourselves.
We bought parts.
Many unnecessary ones.
We experimented, failed, and tried again.
With support from repair specialists,
we completed our first prototype.
In 2015, we built our first aluminum guitar.
It was unexpectedly heavy.
We tried stainless steel next.
The result was nearly the same—around 5kg.
That was when we realized:
Weight is not defined by material alone.
In 2017, after introducing welding technology,
we redesigned the structure itself.
The weight dropped to approximately 2.2kg.
At the same time, our understanding of aluminum evolved.
At first, we painted it.
But we came to understand—
aluminum is not something to hide.
It is something to reveal.
We transitioned to anodized finishes.
The metallic depth and color are not applied—
they are inherent to the material.
But solving weight revealed a deeper problem.
Sound.
We began experimenting with neck materials.
Softer woods were stable but lacked clarity.
Harder woods improved tone—but introduced risk.
In 2021, a prototype shipped to Europe arrived with a broken neck.
In 2022, another arrived twisted due to the natural behavior of wood.
Still, one fact became clear:
A stiffer neck produces a stronger, more defined sound.
Around this time, a world-class guitarist played our instrument.
His response was simple:
“The tone is solid.”
It confirmed our direction.
In 2023, we turned our focus inside the instrument.
We discovered that the aluminum cone and aluminum body
were resonating at similar frequencies,
causing vibration to spread across the entire structure.
The sound was not being projected forward.
It was being lost.
So we redesigned the internal structure.
Not to increase resonance—
but to control it.
Then we made a counterintuitive decision.
We reduced the body size.
By minimizing internal space,
we limited how vibration could disperse.
Less space.
More focus.
More projection.
In 2025, we re-engineered the neck.
By combining laminated bamboo with Richlite,
we achieved both rigidity and stability.
We also introduced CNC machining for the neck and fingerboard.
Not for mass production—
but for precision.
Every angle, every surface, every contact point
is engineered for consistent vibration transfer.
For the first time,
we were able to control the flow of vibration across the entire instrument.
From the cone,
through the body,
into the neck.
This is not a lightweight guitar.
It is a guitar engineered to control sound.
